Room-sharing labels help describe an offer, but they do not confirm every detail about beds, occupancy or privacy. A useful comparison starts with the rooms your actual party needs.
Ask what the label means in the quotation
Double, triple and quad commonly describe intended occupancy, but the label alone does not guarantee the bed arrangement. Ask for the actual room category, number and type of beds, maximum occupancy and any extra-bed arrangement. Keep the written answer with the hotel name and dates. Do not compare two prices as equivalent when those details differ or remain unknown.
Price the rooms your party will use
A per-person headline based on four sharing does not necessarily apply to a couple wanting a private room. Ask for the total for your actual travellers and rooms. If you need two rooms, obtain a quotation on that basis. Dividing a different shared-room total into equal amounts does not turn it into an equivalent offer.
Clarify arrangements for children
Provide children’s ages at travel when needed for the quotation and ask how beds, occupancy and pricing are calculated. Do not assume a child is free or has a separate bed. Check any cot or extra-bed request and whether it is confirmed or subject to availability. The answer may differ between hotels in the same itinerary, so record each stay separately.
Treat connecting and nearby rooms carefully
If your family needs connecting rooms, ask whether the connection is guaranteed. “Adjacent”, “nearby” and “connecting” should not be treated as interchangeable without a clear explanation. If a feature is essential, obtain confirmation before deciding that the proposal is suitable. A request passed to the hotel is not the same as a confirmed arrangement.
Agree preferences within the party
Discuss privacy, room sharing, children’s arrangements and practical access needs with the people travelling. Do not assume that everyone accepts a particular arrangement because it reduces the price. Nominate someone to keep the current written itinerary, but let each adult check the details relevant to them. Resolve conflicting expectations before an order is authorised.
Use a room-by-room comparison
Create a row for each proposed room: hotel; dates; occupants; beds; meals; confirmed requests; additional cost; unresolved questions. Compare the full-party total once those details match. If a hotel or room category changes, review the entire arrangement again. Read the relevant substitution and cancellation conditions rather than assuming an informal description overrides the written terms.
